The ICGA Muslim Cemetery first came into existence in the early 1980s with a non-profit WAQF donation of 20 acres of land just outside of Austin, in Dale, Texas. The Islamic Center of Greater Austin (ICGA) sees itself only as a custodian of the cemetery — the land belongs to the Muslim community it serves.
Since its inception, the cemetery has served not only the Austin community but families across the greater Central Texas region, including Killeen, San Antonio, College Station, and Houston. In a typical month there are 10–15 burials, and the cemetery is expected to serve the Central Texas community for centuries to come.

Cared for according to Islamic tradition
WAQF land, free for all Muslims
Because of its WAQF status, the cemetery land itself is free for all Muslims. The only costs involved are grave digging, paid directly by the family to a third-party digger, and a plaque with the name and dates of birth and death, charged at cost to keep plaques uniform and in keeping with religious standards.
Volunteer-led burial rites
ICGA does not charge any fees for Ghusl (washing), Kafan (shrouding), or Janazah (funeral prayer). All religious rites are provided by trained community volunteers without compensation, including trained sisters available to wash and prepare deceased Muslimah.
Legally recognized
As a registered non-profit, the ICGA Cemetery is legally permitted by the State of Texas to bury Muslims in complete accordance with Islamic law — unlike for-profit cemeteries with Muslim sections, which must follow licensed funeral-home laws that can conflict with Muslim funeral rites.
Backed by masajid across Central Texas
The ICGA Muslim Cemetery enjoys broad-based support from Islamic centers throughout the region, who help sustain its independent endowment fund for land development, maintenance, and expansion of the 20-acre grounds.

Help us maintain this WAQF for generations to come
Community donations are essential to the running of the ICGA non-profit cemetery. Your contribution helps us maintain our tax-exempt status and continue offering these services at reduced cost to every Muslim family that needs them. Recent donation-funded projects include surveyed burial lots, fencing, expansion of the children’s section, a parking lot, an onsite bathroom, and a Janazah cleaning room.
